A Los Angeles production company needed to get their camera equipment into Alaska and onsite the next day or lose an entire day of shooting. Time was of the essence. The production manager called Alaska Air Forwarding Friday night at 10:00pm. Since a live person always answers our phones, we were able to respond quickly and schedule a pick up truck at 4:00am Saturday morning. The production company’s equipment was on location that same night and ready for the shoot the next day.

Fishing
In the middle of the fishing season, it’s paramount to have your fishing boat running. Alaska Air Forwarding had a customer in dire need. The customer’s boat had broken down and had limped back to Dutch Harbor when one of the area’s many storms brewed. The storm caused a two day backlog of freight getting into Dutch Harbor. At Alaska Air Forwarding we know the necessity of getting that boat running and flew our Sales Manager in Anchorage to Dutch Harbor. He hand-carried the replacement parts on his lap for the 3 hour trip. The customer was able to resume their season with less than a day lost and our sales manager was able to spend a pleasant 20 minutes in Dutch Harbor.

Inventory/Mfg
Manufacturing companies aren’t the only ones practicing “just in time” inventory management. A large Alaska fishing vessel normally keeps an extra generator on board in case of failure. When one fails, as they often do at sea, a second one is brought out of inventory and a replacement is ordered. While not a priority, the fishing vessel wanted to have the unit on the dock when they pulled into port. They contacted AAF to move the generator out of Southern California on a standard service basis. We went into action. Working with the supplier to coordinate pick up, we moved the generator into the fishing port in three days, matching to the dock time of the vessel.

Construction
A large Alaska contractor was delayed finishing up a building on a military base in Alaska. A 2800 lb. back- up generator had not been shipped as ordered from Milwaukee, WI. The contractor turned to AAF for help. They needed the generator quickly but the cost was coming out of their bottom line. AAF structured a move that was part air and part truck that would meet the contractor’s installation schedule. AAF picked up the shipment and delivered it to the job site in 4 days – on time and on budget for the contractor.

Government
Recently a government agency had an urgent need to ship freight from the lower 48 states into a remote area of Alaska. The agency employee crated the shipment and called Alaska Air Forwarding for the shipping. Then he flew to the freight’s destination. Later that night after landing, the employee checked in with his office and logged into his e-mail. To his amazement he read that the shipment had arrived ahead of him. It was already secure and safe in the warehouse.
